Borrowing Policies
-
Most materials can be borrowed for 21 days and may be renewed for another 21 days if no one else has requested the materials.
-
Books marked REF are for reference use only and cannot be taken from the Library.
-
You can place holds online via CityCat, the Library's online catalog for books, and you will be alerted when the materials become available.
Returning Your Materials
-
Please return materials as soon as you are finished with them. It is best to return your books to the Library yourself.
-
If material is not returned by the date it is due, there is a fine of 20 cents for adult material for each late day, including the day the material is returned. If by some mistake you neglected to bring the book back, and it is long overdue, please return it; the maximum fee is $10.00 per item.
-
If you have a number of overdue items or unpaid fines on your record, you may not be allowed to check out more library materials.
-
Fines for adult videos and / or DVDs are $1.00 per day if not returned by the date due, including the day material is returned.
-
We do not currently charge fines for children and young adults.
Lost Items - Replacement Fees: Customers who lose or irreparably damage DC Public Library materials will be billed the cost of the material plus a $10.00 processing fee to replace the lost or damaged item. This includes juvenile materials.
Interlibrary Loan
-
Libraries across the country share their resources. If DCPL does not have a book that you need, please talk to the staff. We will borrow it from another library for your use. Some lending libraries require that their books stay in the borrowing library, others permit the item to be checked out. |
