Summer reading helps students retain information learned during the school year; it is particularly critical for the development of early readers. The Early Childhood Longitudinal Study sponsored by the US Department of Education cites "children who were read to at least three times a week by a family member were almost twice as likely to score in the top 25 percent in reading than children who were read to less than three times a week." So we have a program designed for parents to read to their children.
