Reading with Children DC Public Library is committed to delivering the highest quality children’s programming that enhances literacy skills for children and their parents in a developmentally appropriate manner. Children’s Librarians undergo substantial training in early childhood literacy, development and storytelling techniques prior to leading programming.
To ensure the same quality of services with volunteers as with staff (and establish a good fit with a site), volunteers must serve with a children’s division in a helper capacity before they are invited to undergo training and undertake reading with children.
Court-Ordered Individuals Due to the safety sensitive nature of most volunteer positions, the DC Public Library can consider court-ordered volunteers on a limited basis only. Court-ordered individuals must disclose the offense for which they were convicted at the time they submit an application and should use the Court-Ordered Volunteer Application, above.
