Adaptive Services Division

The deaf community consists of people with hearing loss and their hearing family members.  Library Services to the Deaf Community (LSDC) assures that the deaf community is aware of existing library and information services provided by the District of Columbia Public Library.

LSDC promotes public awareness about the deaf community, deaf history and culture, American Sign Language, and assistive technology for people with hearing loss.

LSDC maintains a small demonstration collection of assistive listening devices and other adaptive technology for the deaf community and people with hearing loss through the Adaptive Technology Program Video Relay Service (VRS) will be available in the Library in 2008.
